Cities and Regions Talanoa Dialogue Workshop

On World Cities Day, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India and ICLEI South Asia are jointly organising a high-level Cities and Regions Talanoa Dialogue Workshop in India.
2018 is the year of the Talanoa Dialogue – a United Nations (UN) process to take stock of climate action and commitments around the globe – with the aim of inspiring more ambitious national plans needed to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. The Presidencies are encouraging parties and non-party stakeholders to cooperate in convening local, national, regional or global events in support of the Talanoa Dialogue.
ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is supporting this initiative by convening Cities & Regions Talanoa Dialogues globally – a series of in-country consultations. This event is part of Cities and Regions Talanoa Dialogues and intends to foster and strengthen aspects of multi-level governance to enable accelerated and effective on-ground action aimed at achieving NDC commitments.
The outcomes of this event would feed into the global submission which subsequently will be communicated to UNFCCC by ICLEI in its capacity as LGMA (Local and Regional Governments and Municipal Authorities) focal point.
The event will bring together stakeholders from Governments, academia, international community, private sector and civil society in the sub-region.
In addition, a kick-off meeting to announce the initiation of EcoLogistics: Low Carbon Freight for Sustainable Cities project will also be held from 2 pm to 5 pm.
The project is supported by German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMU) through its International Climate Initiative (IKI) program.
A first of its kind global initiative, the project will assist cities to develop Low Carbon Action Plan for Urban Freight, support implementation of demonstration projects in cities, and suggest national policy recommendations for urban freight sector.

ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability seeks to build an international policy environment that strengthens local government and supports local sustainability. To facilitate this, ICLEI coordinates local government representation in several UN organizations. ICLEI helps strengthen the capacity of local government officials and leaders to drive a process of change towards sustainable development. ICLEI’s Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers distance training, study tours, and exchange programs. Regular conferences focused on capacity building and exchange take place globally and regionally.
ICLEI South Asia offers local governments a range of services that support training and capacity building on a number of topics such as carbon emission inventorisation, vulnerability assessment, resilience strategy development, integrated water management, holistic waste management, urban mobility and local biodiversity planning. These trainings are sometimes included in programmes and projects, but could also be designed as stand-alone initiatives.
Conferences organized by ICLEI South Asia also provide opportunities for peer exchanges and capacity building, such as the Asia LEDS Partnership Forums and the Resilient Cities Asia Pacific Congresses.
Technical and consulting services, as well as event organization, are provided on a contract basis, in a variety of areas including:
- Surveys, best practices identification and documentation, methodological research, and other studies;
- Development of pilot and demonstration projects;
- Fee-for-service technical consulting in key management areas relevant to local government.
- Organization of conferences, seminars, training courses tailored to the needs of local government experts.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, over the last 20 years, has built considerable in-house research capacity drawing on inter-disciplinary teams of experts and practitioners across its offices worldwide.
