ICLEI and the City of Ghent, Belgium are pleased to announce the EcoProcura 2014 conference. EcoProcura 2014 will be held on 24-26 September 2014 in Ghent, Belgium. The EcoProcura conference series provides a dynamic and unique setting for exchange and equips participants with essential information on implementing sustainable public procurement and procurement of innovation. Targeted to procurers from all levels of government, policy-makers, business, suppliers, manufacturers, multipliers and representatives from the European Commission and European Parliament, the conference will have the theme of examining sustainable public procurement from the perspective of cost-efficiency.
The conference will fully explore this theme through examining the cost-efficient use of public money through procurement, the development of integrated sustainable public procurement strategies, implementing the new European Public Procurement Directives and asking how public procurement can stimulate innovation.
EcoProcura is the ninth edition of the successful EcoProcura conference series. An interactive conference programme will ensure that ideas, experiences, guidelines and opinions are shared throughout. The conference will offer plenty of opportunities for good practice exchange, dialogues between business and the public sector and finding out about the latest initiatives and projects. ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability seeks to build an international policy environment that strengthens local government and supports local sustainability. To facilitate this, ICLEI coordinates local government representation in several UN organizations. Our contributions in the form of side events, publications, verbal interventions and official background papers have been a consistent, major source of international attention to local initiatives and opportunities to enhance sustainability.

ICLEI helps strengthen the capacity of local government officials and leaders to drive a process of change towards sustainable development. ICLEI’s Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers distance training, study tours, and exchange programs. Regular conferences focused on capacity building and exchange take place globally and regionally.
ICLEI South Asia offers local governments a range of services that support training and capacity building on a number of topics such as carbon emission inventorisation, vulnerability assessment, resilience strategy development, integrated water management, holistic waste management, urban mobility and local biodiversity planning. These trainings are sometimes included in programmes and projects, but could also be designed as stand-alone initiatives.
Conferences organized by ICLEI South Asia also provide opportunities for peer exchanges and capacity building, such as the Asia LEDS Partnership Forums and the Resilient Cities Asia Pacific Congresses.
Technical and consulting services, as well as event organization, are provided on a contract basis, in a variety of areas including:
- Surveys, best practices identification and documentation, methodological research, and other studies;
- Development of pilot and demonstration projects;
- Fee-for-service technical consulting in key management areas relevant to local government.
