The Global District Energy in Cities Initiative (www.districtenergyinitiative.org), coordinated by UNEP, is supporting national and local governments in their efforts to develop, retrofit or scale up modern district energy systems, through a multi-stakeholder partnership and with backing from international partners and the private sector.
ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, as key focal point for local governments and co-coordinator of capacity building under the Initiative, warmly invites you to actively participate in this webinar series, brought to you in cooperation with several partners and champion and pilot cities in the Initiative. This webinar series will showcase global good practice examples, covering district heating and district cooling:

Agenda: Business models, financial structuring and business development. Examples from wholly public to public-private partnerships are explored.

ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability seeks to build an international policy environment that strengthens local government and supports local sustainability. To facilitate this, ICLEI coordinates local government representation in several UN organizations. Our contributions in the form of side events, publications, verbal interventions and official background papers have been a consistent, major source of international attention to local initiatives and opportunities to enhance sustainability.

ICLEI helps strengthen the capacity of local government officials and leaders to drive a process of change towards sustainable development. ICLEI’s Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers distance training, study tours, and exchange programs. Regular conferences focused on capacity building and exchange take place globally and regionally.
ICLEI South Asia offers local governments a range of services that support training and capacity building on a number of topics such as carbon emission inventorisation, vulnerability assessment, resilience strategy development, integrated water management, holistic waste management, urban mobility and local biodiversity planning. These trainings are sometimes included in programmes and projects, but could also be designed as stand-alone initiatives.
Conferences organized by ICLEI South Asia also provide opportunities for peer exchanges and capacity building, such as the Asia LEDS Partnership Forums and the Resilient Cities Asia Pacific Congresses.
Technical and consulting services, as well as event organization, are provided on a contract basis, in a variety of areas including:
- Surveys, best practices identification and documentation, methodological research, and other studies;
- Development of pilot and demonstration projects;
- Fee-for-service technical consulting in key management areas relevant to local government.
- Organization of conferences, seminars, training courses tailored to the needs of local government experts.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, over the last 20 years, has built considerable in-house research capacity drawing on inter-disciplinary teams of experts and practitioners across its offices worldwide. Links and transfers on research and projects have been continuously extended with partners and relevant actors.
