Final Local Events present the results of the DReAMS project in Guntur, Thimphu and Rajshahi

 

With the EU funded Realising DReAMS project coming to a close, the partner cities of Guntur (India), Rajshahi (Bangladesh) and Thimphu (Bhutan) organized the Final Local Event in their cities to present to their citizens results achieved during the project, including the ecoBUDGET master budget and the Poverty Database Monitoring System (PDMS) developed in the past three years, highlighting the benefits of these tools for the municipalities.

 

The events took place in Guntur on 22 January, in Thimphu on 6 February and in Rajshahi on 13 February, and were attended by local government officials, NGO representatives and other relevant local stakeholders. During the events, representatives from ICLEI South Asia presented the follow-up programme of Supporting Urban Sustainability, that will be conducted in the 3 cities and will use the results of the DReAMS project to motivate the city corporations and local stakeholders to work on ecosystem services for poverty alleviation.

Advocacy

ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability seeks to build an international policy environment that strengthens local government and supports local sustainability. To facilitate this, ICLEI coordinates local government representation in several UN organizations. Our contributions in the form of side events, publications, verbal interventions and official background papers have been a consistent, major source of international attention to local initiatives and opportunities to enhance sustainability.

Training

ICLEI helps strengthen the capacity of local government officials and leaders to drive a process of change towards sustainable development. ICLEI’s Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers distance training, study tours, and exchange programs. Regular conferences focused on capacity building and exchange take place globally and regionally.

ICLEI South Asia offers local governments a range of services that support training and capacity building on a number of topics such as carbon emission inventorisation, vulnerability assessment, resilience strategy development, integrated water management, holistic waste management, urban mobility and local biodiversity planning. These trainings are sometimes included in programmes and projects, but could also be designed as stand-alone initiatives.
Conferences organized by ICLEI South Asia also provide opportunities for peer exchanges and capacity building, such as the Asia LEDS Partnership Forums and the Resilient Cities Asia Pacific Congresses.

Technical and consulting services, as well as event organization, are provided on a contract basis, in a variety of areas including:

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, over the last 20 years, has built considerable in-house research capacity drawing on inter-disciplinary teams of experts and practitioners across its offices worldwide. Links and transfers on research and projects have been continuously extended with partners and relevant actors.
