Implementation partners meet to begin activities on integrated rural urban water management
To initiate the implementation of the Integrated Rural Urban Water Management for Climate Based Adaptations in Indian Cities (IAdapt), supported by International Development Research Centre, Canada, a partners’ meet was held at IIT Madras, Chennai.
This two-day meeting was attended by all project partners – ICLEI South Asia, Athena Infonomics, IWMI and IIT Madras. Partners presented learnings from earlier work that they have done, which can be used for this project. A detailed action plan for the three-year project has been developed for implementation of the project. Formation of the Steering Committee and the Advisory Board for the project was also discussed in the meeting.
The initiative, with project cities as Solapur (Maharashtra) and Vijaywada (Andhra Pradesh), aims at institutionalization of climate change adaptations by extending an existing framework for Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM) to the peri-urban areas through participatory planning, simple decision support tools, catchment level action plans and multipronged financing approaches.
