New Project to Support Four Delhi-NCR Municipal Corporations in Improving Air Quality

ICLEI South Asia, with support from Clean Air Fund, will help four municipal corporations to improve air quality, under a two-year-long new project “Building City Leadership on Clean Air Action in Delhi National Capital Region (NCR)”.

The activities that will be implemented under the project will be in line with the Government of India’s targets and will focus on encouraging cities in the NCR to take ownership of their work related to air quality improvement and facilitate interactions and knowledge exchange between different stakeholders. The municipal corporations will receive support in developing action plans and approaches to improve air quality based on existing resources, and in exploring potential partnerships to implement pilot projects, among other activities.

The project team is currently documenting information on air quality, funding sources, good practices, and the identification of stakeholders.

Advocacy

ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability seeks to build an international policy environment that strengthens local government and supports local sustainability. To facilitate this, ICLEI coordinates local government representation in several UN organizations. Our contributions in the form of side events, publications, verbal interventions and official background papers have been a consistent, major source of international attention to local initiatives and opportunities to enhance sustainability.

Training

ICLEI helps strengthen the capacity of local government officials and leaders to drive a process of change towards sustainable development. ICLEI’s Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, and offers distance training, study tours, and exchange programs. Regular conferences focused on capacity building and exchange take place globally and regionally.

ICLEI South Asia offers local governments a range of services that support training and capacity building on a number of topics such as carbon emission inventorisation, vulnerability assessment, resilience strategy development, integrated water management, holistic waste management, urban mobility and local biodiversity planning. These trainings are sometimes included in programmes and projects, but could also be designed as stand-alone initiatives.
Conferences organized by ICLEI South Asia also provide opportunities for peer exchanges and capacity building, such as the Asia LEDS Partnership Forums and the Resilient Cities Asia Pacific Congresses.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, over the last 20 years, has built considerable in-house research capacity drawing on inter-disciplinary teams of experts and practitioners across its offices worldwide. Links and transfers on research and projects have been continuously extended with partners and relevant actors.
