Supporting sustainable urban transport and built environment in 4 Indian Smart cities
ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability South Asia, in association with partners Sandeep Gandhi Architects, worked with and supported four Indian smart cities — Udaipur, Kakinada, Vizag and Jaipur – during 2015-16 through an initiative supported by Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation. A new phase has been initiated for taking forward the engagements with the city and state governments and continuing technical support as the cities proceed into implementing their smart city proposals. This initiative will support the cities of Udaipur, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam and one more (to be identified soon).
The new phase aims to develop and showcase an integrated and comprehensive approach to address urban transport issues and promote sustainable built environment by implementing nationally recommended steps and strategies. The project aims to deliver city scale action plans under transport and built environment for four smart cities. The primary intended outcome of the project is to build capacity of city teams to achieve the sustainable transport targets and promote green and efficient built environment.
